Woman, 60, found murdered, dumped in sugarcane plantation

Police in Rongo, Migori County have launched investigations into the death of a 60-year-old woman who was found murdered and her body dumped at a sugarcane plantation in Korwe Village.

The body of the deceased, identified as Rusalina Oketch, was found by her grandson who was searching for her after she failed to return home on Monday night, December 12, prompting him to report the matter to the police.

According to the grandson, Ms Oketch left home at 7.30am to go to a nearby sugar plantation where she worked as a casual labourer and she was expected back in the afternoon because she was supposed to attend a funeral, but failed to show up, raising suspicion among family members.

“She left home on Monday morning for the sugarcane plantation but when she failed to return home at around 6 pm we got worried and went to search for her, only to find her lifeless body at the plantation,” said her grandson, Daniel Otieno.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Rongo OCPD Kisaka Muganda said police at Rongo Police Station have begun investigations into the matter, adding that the deceased had injuries at the back of her head which he suspects must have been inflicted by a blunt object.

“When we found her, she was lifeless and had injuries at the back of her head we suspect were injuries from a blunt object,” said Kisaka.

The body of the deceased is at the Ramcomp Hospital Mortuary as the police continue with their investigations.
