Woman who ‘donated’ newborn baby arrested

A 21-year-old woman who “donated” her three-week old baby boy have been arrested in Bondo.

Arrested alongside Dorcas Kemunto was 60-year-old Penina Kemunto who was given the newborn baby in Suna West.

The two were apprehended after it was established the younger Kemunto failed to follow the right child adoption procedures when she gave her older namesake the infant.

Area chief Mr. Silvance Gibore said that he received a tip off from members of the public who reported that the 60-year-old had a baby in her house who was crying incessantly.

On visiting the home, the woman revealed that the baby was not hers and had just been gifted by his biological mother who told her she could not afford to take care of him.

Dorcas also corroborated the story saying she is poor and cannot afford to feed and clothe him.

Mr. Gibore said the two, who are being held at the Migori police station, will be charged with failure to follow the requirements and process of adoption in Kenya.
