Women with severe period pain could soon get days off in Spain
Many women experience cramps and other symptoms during their menstrual cycle.
However, for some, the symptoms take a severe form, with a lot of pain.
Some women suffer from dysmenorrhea, which is severe period pain.
It is this group of women that Spain is targeting as it pushes for three days off work each month under a reform plan due to be approved next week.
Sky News quoted the Secretary of State for Equality and against Gender Violence, Ángela Rodríguez, as saying the new laws would benefit those suffering from severe period pain.
"It is important to clarify what a painful period is, we are not talking about a slight discomfort, but about serious symptoms such as diarrhoea, severe headaches, fever," Rodríguez is quoted as saying on Thursday.
In Kenya, there are no laws granting leave to women who suffer from severe period pain.
The only leave women in specific are entitled to is maternity leave, which is three months.
