Kenya National Food Alliance Workers Association (KNFAW) and Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) officials have decried increasing cases of job layoffs and mistreatment of workers by employers.

Led by KNFAW North rift representative, Rodgers Ombati and Peter Odima of COTU, the unionists condemned the acts, stating that some employers are barring workers from joining unions.

“Some think we are still a colony. Kenya is a country where the constitution allows all workers to join unions without discrimination,” Odima stated.

Ombati at the same time accused some companies of favouritism and classification of employees in their premises.

They called on workers being victimised at their jobs to report such acts for action to be taken against them.

“Workers should also be given off days on Christmas or be paid overtime,” Ombati stated.
