Worst performing KCPE schools to receive funding

Primary schools that failed to achieve the set national mean grade of 243 marks in the past three consecutive Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results are liable for funding to the tune of Ksh.500,000 through the government.

According to the Director of Projects at the Ministry of Education, Elyas Abdi, the money – more than half of which has already been disbursed to the schools – is meant to be used in improving infrastructure as well as resources necessary for the improvement of said schools.

A balance of Ksh.200,000 will be disbursed in 2018, following Ksh.300,000 which has already been disbursed.

Headteachers of the 4000 schools were also presented with tablets containing management software to enable them improve their schools.

The project has been sponsored by Global Partnership for Education, and will be supervised by the World Bank.
