Kibet bags first medal for Kenya, Jacobs takes 60m gold at World Indoor
Noah Kibet powered to 800m silver behind Spaniard
Mariano Garcia to bag Kenya's first medal at the World Indoor Championships in
Belgrade, Serbia.
Kibet put up a determined challenge for gold but his
effort ultimately fell short as the Spaniard Garcia did just enough to hold him
off and win in 1:46.20.
The 17-year-old Kenyan timed 1:46.35 for second place
with USA’s Bryce Hoppel taking bronze in 1:46.51.
World record holder Gudaf Tsegay led an Ethiopian 1,2,3
but was a class apart from her compatriots in the end as she smashed the
championship record with a time of 3:57.19 to claim gold in the 1500m.
Italy's Lamont Marcell Jacobs added the world indoor
60m crown to his Olympic 100m title as he scorched to victory in track's
shortest event in Belgrade.
Jacobs timed 6.41 seconds, producing a savage,
perfectly-timed dip at the line to nudge ahead of defending champion Christian
Coleman of the United States.
Coleman's teammate Marvin Bracy claimed bronze in
6.44sec.
Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas produced a
brilliant controlling run to win gold in the women’s 400m.
The Bahamian clocked a stunning gun-to-tape 50.31sec
for victory, Dutchwoman Femke Bol claiming silver 0.26 behind - her first
indoor defeat in two years. Stephenie Ann McPherson took the bronze.
