11 local-based Stars make cut for Mozambique duty

Domestic giants Gor Mahia FC and AFC Leopards have contributed the lion’s share of local-based players selected by Harambee Stars First Coach Stanley Okumbi for the upcoming international friendly match against Mozambique.

Seven of 11 players in Okumbi’s 20-man squad ply their trade in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) with the foreign-based legion making up the other nine that will be viable for selection on Saturday in Maputo.

Peter Odhiambo, Timothy Otieno, Kenneth Muguna and George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo (all from Gor) made the cut alongside Leopards trio of Duncan Otieno, Victor Majid and Robinson Kamura.

Five Zambian-based players; Jesse Were, Anthony Akumu and David Owino (Zesco United) as well as John Mark Makwatta and his Buildcon FC teammate Cliffton Miheso are in the squad that will depart Nairobi on Thursday.

The squad has been camping at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies (KSMS).
