120 GSU officers mobilised for Sunday’s Mashemeji derby

Some 120 General Service Unit officers have been mobilised for the high stakes Mashemeji derby to be played this Sunday at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, AFC  Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda has said.

Leopards will host their eternal enemies in the duel and Shikanda is rallying fans to turn up in large numbers as there will be adequate  security.

Shikanda added that they have sorted with the stadium management on how they will pay for the damages caused by a section of Ingwe fans during the first leg in which they lost 4-1 to their arch rivals Gor Mahia in November 10 last year.

“Despite the First Lady Marathon happening on the same day, the authorities have guaranteed us maximum security in and around the field and we, as the club officials, are planning to hold meetings with our counterparts from Gor Mahia to plan on how we can educate and control our fans during the day,”said Shikanda .

Both teams are heading to the Sunday clash in high spirits with K’Ogalo being top of the log while a resurgent  Leopards, at the  sixth place, also enjoying a rich vein of form, both having won their respective weekend matches .

The Leopards chairman also called on the fans to maintain peace during the clash.

“Football is the most loved sport  in the world; it’s supposed to unite us and not divide us; we ask our fans to cheer the team peacefully.  The players are determined to make us proud as they have been doing in the recent matches,” he added.

This is a determined and disciplined group of players who understand the pride and importance of playing for the badge and I’m confident they will make us proud ,”enthused the club boss.

The club chairman was also quick to point out the importance of good officiating.

“We have addressed that(good officiating)with KPL and we hope whoever will be put in charge of the derby will be competent enough to handle the game without any biasness,” he concluded.
