The 2023 edition of the Kirdam Half Marathon and Road Race
will be held on Saturday, August 19, in Kabarnet, Baringo County.

Isaiah Cherutich said the theme for this year’s edition is athletics against
climate change, an effort to raise awareness of the climate change menace.
“In the 2023 Kirdam Half Marathon edition, we plan to expand
our efforts to mitigate climate change effects by planting over 50,000 trees
and distributing water tanks to deserving households and schools in the Baringo
Central constituency.
"This, of course, is in addition to the main objectives of the
race that include athletic talent search, promotion of healthy living,
promotion of local tourism, and creating family-fun days for residents and
sports enthusiasts.”
The event will be held in Kabarnet town and feature 21km, 10
km, and 6km races, with prizes awarded to the top ten athletes in both men’s
and women’s categories.
“The winner of the 21km and 10km races will take home Ksh.
250,000 and Ksh. 100,000, respectively. Both races will be open to adults,
seasoned athletes, and road race lovers.
“The 6km will be a fun run for corporate institutions,
families, and sports enthusiasts,” added Cherutich.
Athletics Kenya Baringo branch chairperson Barnabas Kitilit
reaffirmed their readiness for the event, adding that Athletics Kenya has given
them the go-ahead.
“The event is organized by the Athletics Kenya Baringo
branch. This edition has been licensed, and we are ready for the event. We’ve
had several meetings geared toward the event.
“We’ve also marked the route with certified individuals from
Athletics Kenya and World Athletics.
“The region’s tourist potential will also be brought to fore
through the road-race by promoting the unique, exotic terrain that has produced
some of the leading Kenyan athletes,” added Kitilit.
Kirdam Half Marathon organizers intend to use the proceeds to
support environmental conservation initiatives in the local community and the
wider Baringo County.
Its core activities include tree planting exercises along the

Baringo Central Constituency to promote rainwater harvesting, donating water
tanks to schools for rainwater harvesting, promoting healthy living through
sports, athleticS talent search, and enhancing awareness about the climate
