3KFC have vowed to spoil Fortune Sacco’s FKF Premier League promotion playoff ambition when the two sides clash in a potentially-explosive National Super League (NSL) tie dubbed ‘Mount Kenya Derby’ to be played at Moi Stadium in Embu on Sunday.
The match carries high stakes, especially for Fortune Sacco, who are battling to secure a third-place finish that would earn them a spot in the promotion playoffs to the FKF Premier League next season.
On the other hand, this is more than just a fixture for 3K— it is a chance to settle scores in the football of Central region after Fortune secured a 1-0 win the reverse fixture.
“We’re targeting victory in this derby. They beat us 1-0 in the first leg, and this is the perfect opportunity to avenge that defeat.
“The pressure is on them. They’re chasing a playoff slot, and that comes with expectations. For us, we’re focused on playing our game and grabbing the three points,” said 3K Club’s assistant coach Moses Munene.
3K, who are placed tenth on 40 points with three matches remaining, will however need to be in their top form if they are to pick maximum points against a side that has not tasted defeat since a 1-0 loss to another promotion-chasing side, Naivas on March 22.
They thumped Mombasa United 5-1 in their last outing to firmly stay on course for a top-three finish, where the third ranked team in the second-tier league take part in a promotion/relegation playoff with the 16th placed team in the FKF Premier League.
The Sylvester Odero-coached side are currently fourth on 51 points, two below third placed Naivas with three matches left to play.
With derby pride and playoff ambitions on the line, Sunday's encounter promises to be a thrilling battle for Mt. Kenya supremacy as ten points separate the two sides.
