Action galore as Shield competition enters round of 16
Vihiga United head coach Mike Mururi has sent a stern warning to their FKF -Shield opponents Ulinzi Stars ahead of their Sunday clash in the round of 16 match noting that the soldiers will not pick a back-to-back victory over them.
The two sides cross swords at the Mumias Complex on Sunday and United wants to atone for the 2-0 defeat they suffered in the hands of the former league champions who beat them 2-0 in last weekend’s league contest
Mururi, a former international added that the tie is a must win for his team, adding that his boys are sufficiently prepared for the duel.
“This is a knockout tournament and we are playing at home so we no option other than to win and progress to the next round,”he said. ” We have evaluated last week’s performance against them (Ulinzi) and we have worked on the mistakes we committed. They scored two easy goals but we have worked out our weak points. We are ready to play,” a confident Mururi said.
He went on: “Ulinzi Stars cannot win two games consecutively against my team. They will probably approach the game with over confidence after their win last week but we go into the game targeting victory. To do that,we have to play attacking football.” added Mururi.
The tactician is however not ‘blind’ to the opponents’ strengths pointing out their physical and technical abilities while at the same time stating that his players will be in a position to counter the threat posed by the Danstone Nyaudo’s charges.
The fixture is the only FKF Shield match pitting two premier league sides with Kariobangi Sharks, Tusker and Western Stima– all facing teams from the lower tier .
Elsewhere, Kariobangi Sharks will be the only Premier League side in action on Saturday against Modern Coast Rangers in one of the three fixtures lined up with two to be staged at the Narok Stadium.
National Super League (NSL) side Kenya Police will battle for a slot in the quarter finals against Leysa. This match will succeed the Friend Zone versus Riverplate clash who also cross swords at the same venue from 1 pm.
At the same time, Sofapaka will be seeking a quarters ticket when they collide with second placed NSL side Western Stima, as eleven-time league winners Tusker travel to Narok to entertain Bungoma Superstars after a disastrous outing last week at the hands of Kariobangi Sharks.
