After experiencing the highs and lows of international football, Jerrine Adhiambo has shifted her focus back to club duty with renewed determination.
‎The talented midfielder, who features for Mathare Women, has pledged to play a key role in helping the team secure promotion to the Kenya Women’s Premier League.
‎Her remarks come shortly after returning from national duty with Harambee Starlets U20, who were knocked out of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers by Tanzania last weekend.
‎Despite the disappointment of elimination, Jerrine describes the experience as both challenging and motivating. The defeat was particularly painful for the youngster, who is on the verge of turning 20, a milestone that effectively ends her eligibility for the U20 national side.
‎“It hurts because this was my last chance to represent the U20 team,” she admitted, noting that age restrictions will deny her another opportunity at that level.
‎With that chapter closing, Jerrine is now channeling her energy into the Mathare Women’s promotion push. The Nairobi-based side currently sits atop NSL Zone A with 31 points, putting them in a strong position as the season enters its decisive stages.
‎"This season, our target is to win the NSL and earn promotion to the Premier League. Last season was a bit challenging, but this time around things are working smoothly, from the playing unit, the technical bench, and the management." She added.
‎Mathare will next face Bandari Queens on Sunday at Dandora Stadium in Nairobi County, with kick-off set for 4 pm. A victory would further solidify their promotion credentials and edge them closer to top-flight football.
‎For Jerrine, the mission is clear: turn personal disappointment into collective success and help Mathare Women climb to the highest level of Kenyan women’s football.
