Africa Cub Championships: Prisons hunt for bronze after falling to MSB in semis
Kenya Prisons will now shift their attention to the third place play-offs in hunt for a podium finish after seeing their hopes of bagging gold in the men's African Volleyball Club Championship go up in smoke.
This is after defending champions Mouloudia Sportive de Bou
Salem (MSB) edged them in straight sets in a semi-final clash staged at Cairo
Stadium indoor Arena, Cairo on Monday night.
The Tunisian giants lifted the reigning local champions off
their canvas with an upper cut of 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-22) in a nail biting
clash.
Led by Kenya's finest middle blocker Simon Kipkorir Kosirai,
MSB dominated Prisons giving them no chance to pounce in any set.
Kipkorir, MSB's utility player who became the first Kenyan
player to win the Confederation of Africa Volleyball Men's Club Championships
title last year, will now be looking to lead his counterparts in defending
their crown when they meet hosts Al Ahly Club.
The Kenya Volleyball Federation men's league reigning
champions are pencilled to clash with AI Naser SC Club who also suffered a 3-0
(25-19, 25-18, 26-24) hiding at the hands of Al Ahly Club.
Assistant head coach Saul Omuyange has in the meantime urged
his charges to reclaim their mojo in the playoffs to head back home with a
bronze medal.
"Yesterday's loss was a painful one but we were playing
a defending champion, a top side with quality players. We now focus on the
playoffs, we will fight for that bronze medal."
Other Kenyan giants Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) who had a
fine run prior to the quarter final defeat will battle for seventh place when
they face off with Cameroon's Port Autonome de Douala.
