African Champs: Kenya Prisons recover to defeat Rwanda's GVC
The Kenya Volleyball Federation men’s league defending champions stunned GVC 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-18) to earn their first crucial points after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Port Autonome de Douala (PAD) of Cameroon in Sunday’s opener.
Having lost their opener, Prisons came to the game knowing they could afford to lose the contest as that would dent their knock out stages hopes.
The local giants signaled their intent to win in the early embers of the game whitewashing GVC 25-11 in the first set which preceded a 25-16 and 25-18 in the second and third sets respectively.
They are now pencilled to face Burundi’s Rukinzo Volleyball Club in their third match of group D on Tuesday and a win will move them closer to the knockout stages.
Prisons are returning to the continental showpiece since 2019.
Elsewhere Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) will be looking to extend their winning streak when they clash with UZ Wolves volleyball club of Zimbabwe later Monday.
The Dockers stunned Rwanda’s PVC 3-1 (18-25, 25-16, 26-24, 15-15) in their opener.
