Eldoret City Marathon organisers Wednesday said things were falling in place ahead of the fifth edition primed for Sunday, April 21 in Uasin Gishu County.

The race director Moses Tanui, while addressing journalists in Eldoret town, said they were pulling out all the stops and so far all systems go, adding that registration will close on April 18.

The edition which was set for September last year was cancelled indefinitely 48 hours to race day after organisers cited delayed arrival of running merchandise and lack of prize money.

“We have ironed out all the difficulties we had before and now the race is recognised by the AK and World Athletics, we also have the prize money already. I can assure all the participants that we will have a top level race,” said Tanui.

The organisers have set Sh18 million as the prize money for the top 20 athletes in both men's and women's category.

Winners will walk away with Sh 3.5 million each, second finishers will pocket Sh1.5 million each while number three will be awarded Sh1 Million.

Tanui added that they had resumed preparations that were put on the backburner after the aborted edition adding that the same course will be used but changes will be made for the start line.

“We used to start the race at Eldoret Sports club, but this time the state line will be in the Highlands Inn area and all is set for the race”

Race patron Gladys Boss Sholei said the event will act as a launching pad for the upcoming athletes.
