Cricket Kenya will hold its extraordinary general meeting this
Sunday at the federation offices in Ruaraka.
Federation treasurer Ken Obuya says the
issues to be discussed are the position of the vice chairman, the general
conduct of some federation officials, and the ongoing wrangles between
the board, the CEO, and the chairman.
“I can assure Kenyans that we will have a special general
meeting on the 21st of this month at our headquarters in Ruaraka.
We have the funds to hold the meeting; no one will stop it; it will take
place,” said Obuya
Despite the board passing a vote of no confidence in the
chairman, Obuya confirmed to Citizen Digital that he is still in charge of the
federation and can represent Kenya on cricket matters unless the cricket
council ousts him.
“The board passed a vote of no confidence in the chairman, but
that does not mean he is out.
“He is still the chairman of Cricket Kenya and can still
represent Cricket Kenya at the council level because they have the
power to remove him from his position,” added Obuya.
The treasurer confirmed that plans are still being made
to host the cricket T20 tournament, and they are hopeful that if all goes as
planned, it will start on the 7th of next month.
“This tournament is so big that it will bring a lot of sports
tourism; the players who are going to be involved will benefit a lot, so it is
quite disappointing for the two board members who are against it, but I believe
it will happen and be a success,” stated the treasurer.
