The Great Chepsaita Cross Country Run is all set to kick off on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Chepkemel Secondary School grounds in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
According to race patron Farouk Kibet, this year's event
promises to be bigger and better with over 10,000 athletes from 41 countries
expected to participate.
"All preparations are complete and the program will start
at 8 am with teen races," said Kibet.
Race director Barnaba Korir said the race has undergone a huge
transformation in the three years as thousands of athletes are set to
participate.
"It's a very important race as a country as it is a highly
paid crops country in the world in terms of prize money, the uniqueness of the
race also is that athletes will be rewarded until number 30 in all categories,"
noted Korir.
The event will feature various categories, including teen,
junior, Under-20 and elite races with attractive cash prizes up for grabs.
The winners in the elite category both men and women will
take home Sh. 750,000, the second winners will carry Sh. 500,000 and the third
positions will have Sh. 300,000.
Korir added that the event has a scholarship program that has supported over 1,600 students in several schools, covering their school fees.
"We have 22 schools that have received Sh. 1 million each,
this will go a long way in assisting children from humble backgrounds,"
added Korir.
