Amakhanga explains loss to Ulinzi, keeps survival hopes
Bunyore Starlets head coach Zachariah Amakhanga has said the heavy
rains at the Mumboha Stadium in Vihiga is what caused their 3-0 defeat in the
hands of Ulinzi Starlets in the Kenyan Women Premier League on Saturday.
Sheryl Angachi, Jentrix Kuyudi and Siliya Rasoha scorethe
three goals for the Soldiers which moved them to second on the log with 30
points, 11 behind the leaders Vihiga Queens while Thika Queens comes third with
also 30 points.
In an interview with Citizen Digital, Amakhanga said
his side was disadvantaged by the downpour as the soldiers somehow thrived in
it.
“We concede defeat but the heavy rains pulled us down. Ulinzi are
soldiers and they are used to operating in any kind of whether, that’s the
point they capitalized on and harvested the three crucial points. That
was our third loss and as a team we must go back to the drawing board. I’m
optimistic that in or next fixture against Trans Nzoia Falcons this weekend, we
shall emerge victorious.”
The loss for the league debutants left them in the ninth position
on the log and Amakhanga is optimistic that they will avoid the relegation axe.
“We are facing relegation as it stands but we want to avoid it at
all cost. We will fight hard in the remaining matches so that we remain in the
premier league next season,” said Amakhanga.
With just seven rounds of the 2021/22 FKF Women Premier League
still left to play, former champions Vihiga Queens have opened up a massive 11
point gap at the top of the table.
The team which remains unbeaten thus far thrashed the host Kisumu
All Starlets 1-0 at their backyard in Kisumu to take their points tally to 41
points.
Gaspo Women lost 2-1 to Zetech Sparks the Stima Members Club as Wadadia edged Trans Nzoia
Falcons 1-0 in Mumias Sports Complex.
