Ambaka, Amonde, and Ombachi out as Shujaa squad is named

Kenya Sevens senior players Willy Ambaka, Dennis Ombachi and Andrew Amonde will not travel to South Africa for the upcoming assignment at the Rugby Africa Solidarity Camp.

However veteran winger Collins Injera makes a comeback to the team with Kenya 7s boss Innocent Simiyu announcing his final squad that will head to South Africa for the Rugby Africa Solidarity training camp.

KCB’s flyhalf Levy Amunga also makes a comeback to the squad which will head down to South Africa on Thursday morning for the ten-day Stellenbosch Solidarity Camp where they’ll also face South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe on the 8th/9th and 14th/15th May and return on 16th May.

Head coach Innocent Simiyu asserting the need to rotate the available players in order to have a competitive and fit team heading to the Olympic games in Tokyo.

“We’re very happy with the progress seen in the team’s performance and we’re also at a stage where we need to expose more players and do more rotation so that we ensure we have an on-form team as we head out for the Olympic games,” said Simiyu.

Hosts South Africa, Zimbabwe and Uganda will also take part in the Stellenbosch Academy of Sport for training camp. The camp is aimed at assisting teams that have already qualified for the Olympics and Olympics Repechage in their preparations for the event later this year in Tokyo.
