Former Kenyan international Boniface Ambani has pledged to steer AFC Leopards back to its lost glory, if elected to succeed Chairman Dan Shikanda in the forthcoming elections.

This is after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) cleared him to run for the post on Thursday.

Ambani was cleared to vie alongside former AFC Leopards commercial director Enos Mutuka.

Former CEO Ronald Namai who also expressed interest to vie for the top seat was not cleared by IEBC making the chairmanship a two horse race.

While Speaking to Citizen Digital after receiving the green light, Ambani declared his intentions, claiming the fans had already made their decision.

“I am going to win this election. The best I can tell my opponent is to step down. I will humiliate him at the ballot box, whether he likes it or not. The people have already decided,” roared Ambani.

The former striker emphasised his deep-rooted connection with football, saying he never left the sport even after hanging up his boots.

“When I quit football, I didn’t leave. I stayed within the cycles of football. I went into coaching and produced one of the best AFC Leopards junior sides, the Cubs.

He also backed his experience in management with his success during his tenure as technical director with Mara Sugar FC, taking the team from Division One all the way to the FKF Premier League.

“We won Division One, came to NSL for two seasons, and we won again. The team is now competing in the National Super League.”

If elected, he promised a total restructuring of AFC Leopards, targeting key areas such as finance, technical structure, and marketing. He also pledged full transparency and accountability.

“Each and every cent, whether from donations or sponsorships, the fans will know the source and how it is spent. Every quarter, I will provide a financial update to the fans and stakeholders.”

The club is expected to conduct the polls on June 29.
