Ambitious Okello dreaming of KPL Golden boot next season
Football Kenya Federation Premier League
(FK-FPL) Nzoia Sugar FC prodigy Levis Barasa Okello is dreaming big, saying he has
set his eyes on contesting for next season’s Golden Boot.
Though the question of who will run the league
and how lingers in all stakeholders of the beautiful game in Kenya owing to the
conundrum caused by the disbandment of FKF and consequently suspension of Kenya
by FIFA, Okello is not succumbing to despair.
Okello netted nine goals last term, seven less
than the eventual top scorer Derrick Otanga who had a late flurry of goals in
the tail-end of the season.
“I want to clinch the Golden Boot next season,
there is no other target that I’m setting for myself even if I switch teams
before the start of the season. My goal will still remain the same.
“I had the same dream last season but my
efforts were not enough. I know where things didn’t work, but I’m hopeful next
season brings better tidings,” added Okello.
Okello endured a long scoring drought, going
13 games without finding the back of the net thus failing in his target.
The striker termed last season challenging
more-so after former head coach Ibrahim Shikanda left but lauded Salim Babu for
steadying the ship.
“The season was challenging. We started the
season under Shikanda and he left without a word so the players were left in a
limbo, but Salim Babu did a good job after taking over.”
The Sudi based millers finished the league on
a high going four matches unbeaten with their last match of the season milling
AFC Leopards 3-1.
After 34 rounds played in the just concluded
FKF-PL campaign, Nzoia managed seven wins, sixteen draws and lost eleven
matches (W7, D16, L11).
The millers ended the season in position 14
with 37 points.
