Amukowa confident light in sight for Kenyan football after formation of Transition Committee
FKF
deputy presidential aspirant Andrew Amukowa is confident that the newly formed
transition committee by Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed will lead to
the formation of a normalization committee.
According
to the former FKF Western branch National Executive Council chairman, there is
light at the end of the tunnel noting that FIFA will soon come in to help form
a normalization committee before stakeholders head to polls to elect new officials.
“I
talk a lot with Amina (Mohammed) and the caretaker committee, as you know,
their time in office expired, but she consequently formed a transition
committee which will eventually take us to the normalization committee,” he
said, adding that, “After five weeks runs out, then we will have the
normalization committee that shall be formed by FIFA who will have a say on the
composition (of the members) and then ultimately take us to elections,” Amukowa
said in an interview with our sister station Mulembe FM.
According to Amukowa, Amina was misguided by some
football stakeholders and should have long formed a normalization committee in
consultation with FIFA, noting that there was no need of a caretaker committee.
“I
really want to thank Amina (Mohammed) because she did a perfect job and we
already have a constitution which we have passed through. They now plan to take
that constitution to FIFA who will have a look at it and then we plan to go to
election,” Amukowa said.
Amina
disbanded FKF in November last year citing misappropriation of funds, a move
that led to the suspension of Kenya from international football by FIFA.
