National Super League second-placed side APS Bomet tactician Charles Odero is confident his side will challenge for the title despite the stiff competition that typifies the second-tier league.

Odero who took over the reins at Bomet in early March has helped the IAAF Bomet Stadium-based side stay level on 47 points with Fortune Sacco but their inferior goal difference means they occupy the second spot.

In his first 10 fixtures in charge, the seasoned tactician has won five, drawn thrice, and lost the remaining three matches, a feat he feels personifies the competitive nature of the league.

“The National Super League is very competitive as almost all teams are matched in terms of talents and abilities.

“That is why I feel even the 10th-ranked team has a chance of winning the title this season,” he said.

Fortune Sacco and APS Bomet have proved to be the league’s frontrunners to clinch the title at the end of the season thanks to a nine-point gap that separates them and third seed Muhoroni Youth.

While Sacco (Fortune) poses a significant challenge to their title prospects, Odero is more concerned about his team’s success a feat he says will give them a chance to emerge as winners when the season concludes.

“I know many people think I’m competing with Fortune Sacco who is having a great season just like us but they are wrong.

“We are our biggest competitors and we are always looking for ways to get better than our previous result. I believe that will help us win the title,” he said, noting that, “We will be distracted if we keep guessing what our competitors are doing.”

Bomet mauled relegation-threatened Mwatate United 4-0 on Sunday in what Odera feels is a welcome turnaround for his attackers who struggled in their back-to-back losses against bitter rivals Silibwet Leons and Migori Youth a fortnight ago.

They will hope to extend their fine run when they travel to face struggling Gusii FC next Saturday.
