Bandari back to winning ways after KCB scare

William Wadri and Yema Mwana struck to guide Bandari FC to a 2-1 win over KCB FC on Wednesday at Mbaraki Grounds, gifting Twahir Muhiddin his first victory since returning to the Kenyan Premier League (KPL).

Bandari’s shortcoming under Muhiddin has been their inability to protect leads and there were some tense final five minutes after Simon Munala pulled one back for the visitors in the 87th minute.

But the Dockers held on to collect maximum points for the first time in six matches while KCB, who sit fourth on the league table, blew the chance to go level on points with Tusker FC and Kakamega Homeboyz who are joint second.

After a barren opening half, Wadri sent goalkeeper Gabriel Andika the wrong way from the penalty spot in the 47th minute after teammate Brian Otieno had been hacked down by Sammy Mwangi inside the penalty area.

And substitute Mwana struck with a quarter-hour left on the clock after getting on the end of Cliff Kasuti’s cross before Munala halved KCB’s deficit after latching on to and punishing Bernard Odhiambo for a failed clearance.

Bandari dominated the first 15 minutes of the match with Shaban Kenga going close after beating defenders Dennis Odhiambo and Mike Kibwage with some neat skills.

Another chance went begging after Collins Agade failed to connect Danson Namasaka’s delivery before Justine Ndikumana was finally called to action by KCB’s Victor Omune whose shot lacked enough power to cause trouble for the Bandari goalkeeper.

A three-goal second half ended 2-1 in favour of the hosts who host Mathare United in their league assigment.
