Bandari stumble again, Sofapaka stun Gor

Kakamega Homeboyz rallied to hold Bandari FC to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, prolonging coach Twahir Muhiddin’s wait for a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) win since his managerial return to the Dockers.

Hamisi Mwinyi scored to put Bandari ahead at the Mbaraki Stadium but, just as they did in their previous outing at Posta Rangers, the hosts were unable to hold to their lead with Benjamin Okech drawing Bandari level in the 72nd minute.

At Sudi Stadium Ulinzi Stars had a late goal ruled out and a man sent off as they settled for a 1-1 draw Nzoia Sugar whose lead courtesy of Vincent Odongo cancelled by second half Omar Borafya’s strike  trading goals.

Ulinzi thought they had completed a comeback victory when Masita Masuta put the ball into the back of the net but his effort was cancelled after the referee adjudged he had fouled goalkeeper Benson Mangala. Boniface Andai was given the marching orders shortly for protesting that decision.

Sofapaka FC pulled off an impressive 3-1 victory over  Gor Mahia FC in Narok, handing the champions their third loss of the season and handing Tusker the opportunity to move to within three points of the top spot when they play AFC Leopards on Sunday.

Hamisi Mwinyi scored to put Bandari ahead at the Mbaraki Stadium but, just as they did in their previous outing at Posta Rangers, the hosts were unable to hold to their lead with Benjamin Okech drawing Bandari level in the 72nd minute.

Bandari will have themselves to blame and captain Shaban Kenga will especially hate to look back at the result after missing two clear chances in the opening seven minutes including a one-one chance which he gave away meekly into goalkeeper Godfrey Oduti’s hands.

David Okoth could have punished Bandari after his strong left shoot was punched away by Justin Ndikumana as they head down the tunnel in stalemate.

Mwinyi opened the scoring in the 59th minute when he connected William Wadri’s cross but that lead only lasted 13 minutes as Oketch equalised for Nicholas Muyoti’s side.

The draw leaves Muhiddin winless with a loss and two draws in 11th place with 20 points as Homeboyz are still second 3 points shy leaders Gor Mahia.
