Bankers hold Gor Mahia, Homeboyz suffer yet another setback

KCB missed a chance to go to the summit after playing to a barren draw against defending Champions Gor Mahia at Thika stadium.

The draw left the Bankers with regrets as their hopes of clinching the title dealt a blow – meaning, Tusker still top the standing with 58 points from 29 matches played same as KCB who are second on goal difference.

The draw places Gor Mahia sixth on the log with 44 points having played 28 matches.

In Kakamega, Kakamega Homeboyz suffered a second defeat in a row after losing 1-2 to Bandari in a Kenya premier league match played on Sunday afternoon at Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega.

Homeboyz who were playing at home dominated most of the first half with forwards Allan Wanga and Shami Kibwana missing two clear chances before speedy winger David Okoth scored the first goal in the 17th minute through a free-kick.

In the second half, Bandari came back stronger and equalised in the 46th minute through Johanna Mwita following a defensive error.

Bandari continued to push Homeboyz back and eventually, they scored the winning goal through striker Omar Kasumba in the 80th minute after a one-two ball play with midfielder William Wadri.

Bandari coach Cassa Mbungo was impressed with his team fight back in the second half after going down in the first half.

“I congratulate my boys for fighting back away from home to win against a good side. It shows good character especially when the league is coming to the end,” he said.
