Basketball tips off this weekend

The Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Premier leagues to start this weekend according to fixture Secretary Joseph Amoko.

The leagues were earlier anticipated to start on May 15 but failed to kick off.

Ten games are scheduled to take place on Saturday and Sunday respectively and will be played at University of Nairobi Grounds and not Nyayo Gymnasium.

The leagues were halted in March when the government suspended all sporting activities in the country due to the rise of Covid-19 infections.

When the league was suspended, some teams had played four to five games out of the 22 league matches in a season.

Women Premier League defending champions Equity Bank will kick-off the league against Eagle Wings while Storms will be playing against Strathmore.

In the men premier league, new kids on the block Terror will be tackling Umoja as KCA University will be playing last season semi-finalists Eldonets from Eldoret.

The restart of the league will be a big boost to the national teams in the preparation of the 2021 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Zone Five Qualifiers in July and the 2021 FIBA Men’s Afrobasket Championship set for Kigali, Rwanda scheduled to take place in Egypt from July 5-10.
