With the festive
season break in the Kenya Basketball Leagues over, Equity Dumas head coach Zadock
Adika looks to start on a winning note as they visit defending champions Kenya
Ports Authority (KPA) in a men’s Premier League match.
The Dockers will
host the Bankers Saturday afternoon at their home court Makande Gymnasium, in
their first meeting of the 2023/2024 season.
Adika feels they have had good
preparations for the match, and is looking forward to the “the new energy the new
signings will inject in the team.”
“We are ready for them (KPA). My players have been
working hard since they resumed after the December holidays so that they may
regain their shape. We also have new blood in the team and it will be good to
see how they will be play over the weekend,” Adika said.
Equity Dumas have roped in Ramazani N'Sasse from DRC
Congo while Jemimah Knight Omondi has joined Equity Hawks from KPA Ladies.
Equity Dumas are fourth on the log with 15 points after
playing nine games, winning six and losing three while KPA are third after
playing similar matches, winning seven and losing two. The latter have 16
points.
Meanwhile, KPA Ladies team head coach Anthony Ojukwu has
acknowledged they are far from regaining the shape he wants to see after the
long December break.
They have a date against Equity Hawks at the same venue
in the Women’s Premier League, and the coach expects her players to use the
fixture to gauge their fitness levels, albeit being a competitive one.
“We are not fully
prepared mentally, but we shall approach the game as it will unfold. The
players are very unfit after the long break. Some players have added weight
which will be a challenge but we will soon get back to our levels,” Ojukwu
said.
