The stage is set for a thrilling showdown as Kibera Soccer Women
FC go head-to-head with Vihiga Queens FC in the FKF Women’s Cup Final this Sunday at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.
The final was initially scheduled for Saturday but had to be
postponed by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to allow the national women’s
team, Harambee Starlets, to participate in the 2025 CECAFA Senior Women’s
Championship, which culminated on Sunday in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Vihiga Queens head coach Boniface Nyamunyauh has expressed
confidence in his team’s ability to defeat Kibera in the final.
The four-time Kenyan Women's Premier League champions secured
their spot in the final with a 2-1 victory over Bungoma Queens in the semifinal
as Kibera Soccer Women, coached by David Vijago, beat Kenya Police Bullets 2-0
at Dandora Stadium.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Nyamunyauh welcomed back her key
players: defender Alice Mideri, midfielder Martha Karani Amunyolete, and forward
Swaum Masungo, who had been with the national side for the Cecafa tournament.
“Kibera is a very tough side, but we are determined to beat them.
We have reviewed their footage of their semifinal match against Police Bullets
and analyzed their strengths and weaknesses, and we are looking forward to a
win.”
“The postponement of the fixture gave us ample time to prepare for
the final, and I believe my four players who were with the National team
(forward Faith Mboya, winger Janet Mumo, goalkeeper Vivian Shiyonzo, and
midfielder Medina Abubakar) will spearhead the team to the throne.”
This year’s cup will see new champions crowned after three-time
winners Ulinzi Starlets were knocked out in the quarterfinals following a 4-3
loss to Kibera Soccer Women in a penalty shootout.
