Be warned, Leopards have claws trained on FKF Cup: Kimani

AFC Leopards have fired a salvo to potential FKF Cup contenders to brace for fierce battle.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, AFC Leopards tactician Anthony ‘Modo’ Kimani said his team’s goal is to bag the coveted title with an aim of playing in the continental Caf Confederation showpiece.

“AFC Leopards loyalists have stood with the team through thick and thin and the best way for the team to reciprocate the kind gesture is by winning the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup and representing the country in the Caf Confederation Cup,” he said.

The big cats will take on Trans-Nzoia`s little known Elim FC who eliminated CUSCO FC 2-0 at Kenyatta Stadium in Kitale on Sunday.

In the Kenyan Premier League (KPL), Leopards are in position seven with 28 points from 17 matches; their chances of winning the league title since 1989 are very slim, therefore, winning the FKF Cup will be a consolation to Ingwe supporters.

The last time Leopards represented Kenya in the Caf Confederation Cup was in 2017 under Coach Robert Matano.

The team was knocked out in the first round by Fosa Juniors from Madagascar.

A 12-time KPL champion, Leopards won the FKF Cup (previously GOtv) for the 10th time in 2017 after beating Kariobangi Sharks 2-0 at Kasarani.

Meanwhile, Naivas FC beat Kariobangi Sharks B 3-0 to book a date with KPL champions Gor Mahia.

Elsewhere, Balaji EPZ beat Equity Bank 2-1 to book themselves a date with Sofapaka in the round of 32 as Zetech Titans beat Uprising 2-0 to advance to the next round as well.

The round of 32 matches will be played between the 15th and 16th February 2020.
