Beach Games start on a high in Malindi

The second edition of the NOC-Kenya Beach Games kicked off on a high note as most defending champions posted good results in Malindi.

In the ladies beach handball, defending champions Coast Queens qualified for the semi-finals after winning two of their opening preliminary matches 2-1 and 2-0 against Pwani Ladies and St. Charles respectively.

"We take every match as a final and that keeps us on course to fight of our title in handball."

In wrestling, Africa Beach Games silver medalist in 90kg and his 80kg bronze medalist counterpart Mark Omumasaba have also booked their final spots slated for tomorrow.

In rowing, defending champion Diana Natecho had an easy task to the finals as men football last year champions Watamu Stars sail through to the finals after defeating Bandari 5-2.

"Despite the sun and being a month of Ramadhan, we are still optimistic we will retain the soccer title," said Hudheifa Mchula who also plays for Harambee Sand Stars.

Finals will be staged tomorrow as NOC-Kenya will also be selecting teams to represent Kenya in the Africa Beach Games set for June 2024 in Senegal.
