Britain’s Prince William vows to run a marathon in Kenya

The second heir to the British throne Prince William has promised to run a marathon in Kenya in support of the mental charity ran by his brother Prince Harry and his wife, Princess Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge.

According to the US Magazine website Williams made the pledge after he address an audience of journalists, media personalities, charity workers and businesses leaders at the Institute of Contemporary Arts where the royal met TV personalities who will be running the Virgin Money London Marathon this April for eight mental health charities.

Good Morning Britain presenter Sean Fletcher, who is running the full marathon course for the charity YoungMinds after his 13-year-old son was recently diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder, revealed that he “chatted to Prince William and he has promised that he will run a marathon in Kenya sometime.”

“Then I spoke to Kate and she said, ‘I’ll believe it when I see it,” Fletcher added.

In October 2010 Prince William and Princess Kate secretly travelled to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy where he went down on one knee and proposed to marry the then Kate Middleton.

The pair were enjoying a 24-hour stop over at the spartan Rutundu Log Cabins during their Kenyan holiday when the Prince popped the question.

According to CNN, William asked Kate to marry him in a “Rutundu cabin on the northern slopes of Mount Kenya, a secluded getaway near a sprawling animal reserve where rhinos and giraffes roam freely.”

The Lewa Conservancy hosts a marathon sponsored by integrated communications firm Safaricom annually.
