The Kenya Floorball Federation is pleading with the Ministry of Sports to rescue them from the looming embarrassment of missing the African Floorball Championships set to begin on Saturday in Ivory Coast.

Noteworthy, the men and women teams are the current African champions but they now risk missing the opportunity to defend their titles.

Speaking to Citizen Digital on Tuesday morning, the Federation president Paul Maina Mwangi said they presented their request for financing to the Ministry of Sports well in advance but no positive response yet.

“We’re begging the government at least to clear our flight expenses for the 24 players from both teams, and we shall handle the costs of food and accommodation while in Ivory Coast,” he said.

The Floorball federation has over time endured similar plights, whenever there are matches to host or honor outside the country.

According to Maina, during the 2019 African Floorball Championships held in Nairobi, they received minimal support from the Ministry of Sports.

“So far we’ve raised at least 1 million from well wishers and we are calling all the stakeholders and lovers of the game to help us raise the money needed to allow us travel in good time so that we do not miss out on the showpiece,” Maina added.

The Federation is hopeful  that the teams will at least leave the country on Wednesday, if their appeal will yield.
