Bukhungu Stadium on track to host 2027 AFCON, CS Mvurya assures

Bukhungu
Stadium in Kakamega County will be ready in time to host the 2027 Africa Cup of
Nations (AFCON), Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and
Sports, Salim Mvurya, confirmed today.
During a tour of the construction site, Mvurya
reassured the public of the government’s commitment to ensuring the stadium
meets the required standards for the prestigious tournament.
He
emphasized that the project remains on schedule and will deliver a world-class
venue.
Kakamega Governor, Fernandes Barasa, who
accompanied Mvurya, expressed confidence in the construction progress.
He assured that
all necessary measures are in place to meet AFCON's strict hosting requirements,
while highlighting the stadium’s role in boosting sports development in the
region.
Other venues earmarked for the tournament
include Moi International Sports Center Kasarani, Nyayo National Stadium, and
the upcoming 60,000-capacity Talanta Sports City along Ngong Road.
Kenya will co-host AFCON 2027 alongside Uganda and Tanzania after their successful joint bid.
