Butere humble Kaya Tiwi as Buru Buru power past Kirigara in school games

Butere Girls on Wednesday halted Kaya Tiwi’s two-year winning streak in girls’ basketball after beating the latter 75-64 in a mouth watering contest in the ongoing national secondary school games at Kangaru School in Embu.

Kaya Tiwi only won the first quarter 20-12 but lost the other three 18-9, 17-13 and 27-23 respectively.

Butere’s Irene Atieno was picked as the most valuable player with a whopping 45 points against Kaya Tiwi’s Caroline Kamau who scored 18 points, including two three pointers which were the highest of the match.

However, a deviant Tiwi’s assistant coach, Likoko Eusebius,  said it’s not over until they play their last pool match,  adding that “in every game there must be a winner and a loser”.

“We must go back to our basics and rectify the small mistakes so that we conquer Moi Girls, “he said in reference to their next group game.

On his part, joyous Butere girls head coach Odeke Chrispin said he is comfortable with the girls performance, adding that his target is to reach the East Africa School Games later in August.

“Tiwi defeated us back in 2012, so this year we overcame them and that makes our target  higher .We want to reach the East Africa Games. ”

In other matches,  BuruBuru Girls outclassed Eastern champions, Kirigara Girls, 72-33.

In the boys category, Sigalame defeated Dagoretti 55-23 while Meru narrowly won by a half basket  to claim a 69-68 win.

Defending champions Laiser Hill silenced Sigalame Boys with a 76-57 win. The last pool matches will be played at the same time tomorrow(Thursday), with Tiwi taking on Moi Girls at 9am while Butere face Barchard in a pool ‘A’ clash.

In pool ‘B’,  Moi Girls  of North Eastern region will face Kirigara Girls at 2pm while Loretto will battle out with BuruBuruat the same time.

In the boys category, at 10.30 am, in a pool ‘B’  clash, Meru School will face Amira while North Eastern’s Wajir Boys host AghaKhan Academy of Mombasa at the same time.

In pool ‘A’ Dagoretti will play against defending Champions Laiser Hill at 3pm as Alliance host Sigalame Boys.
