CAF Women's Champs League: Hasaacas Ladies of Cameroon first team to bag semis ticket
Hasaacas Ladies of Cameroon became the first team to book a
slot in the semi-finals of the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League after
beating AS Mande of Mali 3-0 in their second group game played on Monday
evening at the 30 June Stadium, in Cairo Egypt.
The victory was a continuation of the fine form of the Ghanaians
who won the first match 3-1 against Malian side AS Mande on November 5.
Against Mande Evelyn Badu continued her fine form winning
woman of the match award for a second consecutive game after scoring two goals to
become the top scorer of the competition.
Badu’s goal came on either side of a Perpetual Agyekum free
kick which was also her second of the tournament.
In another match played at the same venue, Malabo Kings from
Equatorial Guinea thrashed Wadi Degla 3-0. The Equatorial Guinean side
dominated the game, with Stephanie Gbegou scoring from the penalty spot in the
13th minute.
She completed her brace in the 41st minute, scoring her
third goal of the competition as Malabo went into the interval leading 2-0.
Grace Balongo scored the third goal after the break and it
could have been a lot more worse for Degla but goalie Nasra Abdel Malek produced
some spectacular saves to prevent her team from what would have been an embarrassing
defeat.
The win allowed Malabo to draw level with Degla at the top
of Group A on three points.
In post-match remarks, Malabo Kings midfielder Grace Balongo
Mfwamba attributed their huge win to their on-pitch chemistry after falling 3-1
at the hands of Wadi Degla on Saturday.
“We spoke together after the losing the last match. We
agreed that we should keep fighting and that’s what we did.”
In our first match, we were nervous and were not yet aware
of the situation. But we managed to pass through this one. We came to qualify
for the final, this is our level and we are ready for AS Mande.”
Wadi Degla coach Wael El Sayed was humble in defeat,
admitting that they had a very difficult game.
“We lost the game early due to physical difficulties. We are not satisfied of the result. Next game is decisive for us; I hope we can win it to continue our journey in this tournament.”
