Carl Flash Tundo crowned ARC champion

Carl ‘Flash’ Tundo, naviagated by Tim Jessop, has has won the 2021 ARC Equator Rally held in Naivasha over the weekend with Tejveer and Jas Mangat taking second and third places respectively.

Speaking after being crowned champion, Tundo said his focus now shifts to the World Rally Championship event that will be held in Kenya between 24th and 27th June 2021.

“I had to take easy on the car, it’s new to me but all has gone well and ARC is behind now my eyes are on the forthcoming Safari Rally,” he said.

WRC Safari Rally Kenya CEO, Phineas Kimathi, extended a special gratitude to everyone including President Uhuru Kenyatta and Sports CS Amina Mohammed, who made the this event possible and run smoothly.

“I would like to thank the president who has really supported us so much, and I can attribute this success to overwhelming support that he has been giving us during the preparations and during the events’ he said.

Kenya used the ARC race as mock test for the upcoming Safari Rally slated for June this year, and having registered a success in this event, Sport and Culture CS Amina Mohammed who closed the event has alluded that Kenya is ready to host the global event.

“I am happy with how this event has panned out, we have registered zero hitches in terms of how prepared we were for this event, and its an indication that we are ready to host the World Rally Championships in June 2021 here in Naivasha.’ She said.

All the 33 drivers who took part in a two-day event, only Hussein Malik and Linet Ayuko who were on a no. 26 car, exited the event on Saturday after falling into a ditch in the early morning slippery run at the Soysambu Stage in Gilgil, Nakuru County.
