However, he said the tournament’s success will depend on transparency and accountability in the development of infrastructure.
Speaking on Royal Media Services’ Mulembe FM on Thursday, Owalo said Kenya has the capacity to deliver a successful tournament if officials responsible for the projects ensure that funds allocated for stadiums and related infrastructure are properly managed.
“We are capable of co-hosting a successful AFCON 2027, provided those managing infrastructural development ahead of the tournament do not misappropriate funds set aside for the works,” he said.
Owalo also reiterated his commitment to supporting local football, particularly Kenya’s two most successful clubs — Gor Mahia F.C. and AFC Leopards.
He said he intends to work closely with officials from both clubs to help strengthen their competitiveness at the continental level.
“I want to team up with officials from Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards to help these two teams compete strongly on the continent,” he stated.
Owalo added that he has long supported both clubs and remains committed to their growth, noting that stronger domestic teams are crucial in raising the overall standards of Kenyan football.
