Champs Stima draw Gor, Leopards in KPL U20

Then Kenyan Premier League (KPL) age tournament was officially revived on Thursday after a three-year absence with the winners taking home Ksh500,000.

Formerly known as the KPL U19, the competition has been re-branded as the KPL U20 to align it with the Confederation of African Football requirements for the age limit for such tournaments.

According to the draw for the event that will run from April 17 to 30, Western Stima who were the last team to win the competition have been pooled in the proverbial group of death alongside SPL champions, Gor Mahia, archrivals and league leaders, AFC Leopards and the 2009 title winners, Sofapaka.

The tournament that will see all 16 top flight teams involved was added to the expanding betting firm SportsPesa’s portfolio after they came in as sponsors.

The official drawing of lots was held today at a Nairobi hotel conducted by SportPesa CEO, Ronald Karaur and his Football Kenya Federation counterpart, Robert Muthomi.

DRAW

Group A- Gor Mahia , AFC Leopards, Western Stima, Sofapaka.

Group B – Posta Rangers, Tusker,Mathare Utd, Chemelil Sugar.

Group  C- Ulinzi Stars, Sony Sugar,Ushuru,Bandari

Group  D- Muhoroni Youth, Kakamega Homeboyz, Thika Utd, Nairobi City Stars.
