Change of guard: Mwatate snap-up Kanuli as new head coach

National Super League newbies Mwatate United have acquired the services of former Shabana FC coach Andrew Kanuli ahead of their debut.

According to the club chairman James Mbaraka, Kanuli will be deputized by Benedict Wanjala who guided Mwatate in their first promotion to the second tier league in the country.

“Kanuli a very experienced coach in the Premier and NSL, will help sail our ship in the new league as he has been there for a long period,” said Mbaraka.

He added,” We need someone on the chalk line and the other to study the game thats why we went for both.”

At the same time the Taita Taveta based side have obtained eight new players including Steven Mweni from Nairobi City Stars and Nigol Mohammed from Nzoia Sugar FC who will add experience to their young squad.

“We have brought on board Nigol from Nzoia Sugar and Mweni of City stars both have a vast experience in our top leagues among the eight new signings.”

Mwatate are scheduled to play FKF Premier League side Sofapaka in a friendly match later today at Dawson Mwanyumba Stadium in Taita which will act as Batoto Ba Mungu’s home ground this season.

Sofapaka who have chosen Taita Taveta county as their new base will launch their 2020-21 campaign against KCB at the same ground on Sunday 29th of November if the league starts on Saturday.
