Chebet, Jebitok advance to 1500m finals at Commonwealth Games

Africa 1500m champion Winnie Chebet and Olympian Edinah Jebitok are through to women's 1,500m final at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Both athletes finished third in their respective heats to qualify for Sunday's final.

Jebitok clocked 4:13.84 in Heat 1 to finish behind winner Ciara Mageean of Northern Ireland (4:13.52) and Australia’s Abbey Caldwell who was second in 4:13.59.

Chebet, who had a disastrous campaign at last month’s World Athletics Championships, clocked 4:16.11 for third place in Heat 2 behind Uganda’s 2019 world champion Winnie Nanyondo (4:16.04) and Briton Katie Snowden (4:16.09).

Home girl Laura Muir, who took in Oregon last month, finished fifth on 4:14.11 behind Australian Linden Hall (4:14.08).
