Double Olympic Champion Beatrice Chebet won the 5000m at the Xiamen Diamond League with a meeting record and a world-leading time of 14:27.12.
Chebet edged out her field opponents, dominating rival Gudaf Tsegay to cruise to a sub-60 final 400m and 14: 27.12 victory with a decisive finishing stretch in the last 200M.
After her win, Chebet said she is still learning her body as the new season poses its own challenge and the elite runners at the field couldn't have made it any easier but was impressed with her rallying especially that last decisive finishing kick.
“The season is still new; I am not sure where the body is. Having a lot of Ethiopians and two Kenyans is not easy, so we were trying to see how tactful the race was. I am seeing my speed is there, my 200 metres reaction is still there, so I am just going back for more training and focus on more Championships."
Meanwhile, Faith Kipyegon narrowly missed the world record as she won the 1000m at the Xiamen Diamond League by a huge margin in 2:29.21.
Kipyegon set the third fastest mark of all time, just behind her personal best of 2:29.15
"The race was good it went how I wanted, to start my season in a good then I wanted to run my personal best , it was very close to a world record but I thank God I ran well and started my season."
Omanyala was edged out by World Indoor Bronze medallist, South African Akani Simbine who dipped just under 10 seconds once again .(9.99).
Olympic Champion Leslie Tebogo was a non factor in the 100m lineup as his efforts earned him a 7th place finish at 10.20.
