Beatrice Chebet came close to breaking the world record as she won the 5000m race at the Diamond league yesterday.

Chebet ran a time of 14:03.69 minutes and went on to state that she was eyeing doing the race in under fourteen minutes, a feat that has not been achieved before.

"Just let me run my own race. I feel my body is in good shape and i have to see how far i can go," said a jubilant Chebet.

After the race Chebet made sure to wait for all her teammates at the finish line, congratulating each and every one of them, reiterating that they were a team and they she was only able to achieve what she achieved through all the training and hard work that they did together.

"I have to congratulate each and every one of them because although we are competing in the same competition, we are teammates as well and we have prepared and trained together. Without them I could not have achieved what i have achieved here today," said Chebet.

Chebet finished by stating that running sub - 15 was well within her sights and that she felt her body was in the best shape to achieve that.

"I am going for it soon, very soon," she said.

The record is currently being held by Gudaf Tsegay.
