World 5,000m silver medallist Margaret Chelimo took the top honours in the women’s 5000m at the Kip Keino Classic meet at the Moi Internatioanl Sports Centre, Kasarani Saturday.

Chelimo destroyed the field as she dominated the 12-lap race clocking 14:55.27 ahead of compatriots Eva Cherono (15:12.16) and Lilian Kasait (15:17.71).

“For sure I had prepared well for today’s race. My last race was in Brussels and I am happy to wind my season with a win on home soil,” said Chelimo after the conquest.

At the same time World Under-20 1,500m champion Vincent Keter picked from where he left as he clocked 3:35.99 ahead of Abdellatif Sadiki of Morocco who finished second in 3:36.63 as Kasaye Adehena of Ethiopia closed the podium in 3:38.18.

“I think I am now ready to compete with seniors. I heeded to advice from Cheruiyot who is my role model and I hope to continue with this form next season. I still have a race to go before I close my season,” said Keter.

Nicholas Chirchir (50.19) and Vanice Nyagisera (59.05) notched new personal bests in the men’s and women’s 400m hurdles.

Philemon Kiplimo took victory in the men’s 10,000m when he clocked 28:37.96 ahead of Rueben Longosiwa who came second in 28:38.97 as Geoffrey Kipchumba placed third 28:38.99.
