Chelsea 2-Arsenal 0: The Blues edge past nine-man Gunners in fiery encounter
It was three points for Chelsea as they managed to beat nine-man Arsenal 2 – 0 in Saturday’s English Premier League fixture.
As expected the derby match was full of thrill as Arsene Wenger looked to have a second consecutive win against Jose Mourinho’s side after community shield win in August.
The tone was set from the start as the two managers engaged in an awkward handshake. Mourinho went looking for Wenger as he came out of the tunnel and the Arsenal manager seemed to reluctantly shake his hand.
All broke loose at the 45th minute after The Blues’ striker Diego Costa rubbed shoulders with Arsenal defender Koscielny. The two were each shown the yellow card.
Arsenal’s Brazilian professional Gabriel Paulista had joined the melee in defence of Koscielny and he got into an argument with Costa as the two retreated to the centre circle. A leg flick towards Costa then earned Gabriel a controversial red card.
Anxiety spilled over to the second half as Santi Cazorla ,who was already on yellow card, ensured Arsenal went down to nine men with his tackle on Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas.
Kurt Zouma had opened the scoreline in the 51st minute for the Blues before Eden Hazard finished off the match with a goal in the 89th minute.
Diego Costa then took the celebration to social media with the tweet below.
