Chepkoech hopes for injury-free season in quest for more titles
World
3,000m steeplechase record holder Beatrice Chepkoech is hoping she will put two
injury-plagued seasons behind her as she eyes major titles this year.
A
series of injuries saw Chepkoech miss out on the Olympic title in 2021 in
Tokyo, Japan and later failed to defend her world title last year in Oregon,
USA, but she says she’s shaken the injury nightmare this season having already
secured a ticket in Kenya’s team for next month’s World Cross Country
Championships followed by a win at the Police championships.
“During
the Olympic Games I had a hamstring injury and low back pains and immediately
the hamstring healed I had a stress fracture but now I thank God I have fully
recovered,” Chepkoech said.
While
she was picked to represent Kenya in mixed relay at the World Cross Country
Championships, Chepkoech is hopeful she can be included in the 10km race after
a recent good run of form.
“My
focus now is the upcoming World Cross Country Championships. I really hope
there will be changes in the team because when we competed at the trials most
of us had not hit top form. Now that most athletes are now picking up their
best forms I think we will be considered for the senior race,” said Chepkoech.
The
31-year-old said reclaiming her world title in Budapest, Hungary later in the
summer is also a top priority for her this season.
