World 3000m
steeplechase record holder Beatrice Chepkoech and Tokyo 2020 Games silver
medalist Timothy Cheruiyot will lead Kenya’s chase for more medals at the Paris
Olympic Games on Tuesday night in the women’s 3000m steeplechase and men’s
1500m finals at Stade de France in Paris.
Chepkoech
will partner Faith Cherotich in hunting for Kenya’s first gold medal in the
women’s race since the event was added to the Summer Games at the Beijing Games
in 2008.
The duo
will have to be at their best to see off defending champion Peruth Chemutai of
Uganda, reigning world champion Winfred Yavi, and Norah Jeruto of Kazakhstan.
In the other
race of the night, Timothy Cheruiyot will be flanked by Africa Games champion
Brian Komen in the 1500m final at 9:50pm, as the duo seek to reclaim the title
last won by Kenya in 2008.
They will
come up against the phenomenal defending champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen of
Norway and world champion Josh Kerr of Great Britain.
Kenya finally won its first three medals on Monday
night through Beatrice Chebet’s gold in women’s 5000m, with Faith Kipyegon
bagging silver, while Mary Moraa won bronze in the women’s 800m.
