Cheruiyot, Kipsang secure 1500m C'wealth Games final tickets

- Cheruiyot, the 2019 world champion and 2020 Tokyo Olympic silver medallist, finished second in the first heat with a time of 3:37.82 behind Australia's Oliver Hoare who clocked 3:37.57.
Kenyans Timothy Cheruiyot and Abel Kipsang both punched
their 1500m final tickets on Thursday at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in
Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Cheruiyot, the 2019 world champion and 2020 Tokyo
Olympic silver medallist, finished second in the first heat with a time of
3:37.82 behind Australia's Oliver Hoare who clocked 3:37.57.
Kipsang, the reigning African champion, came home
third in heat two timing 3:48.63 in a race that was won by new crowned World
Champion Jake Wightman from Scotland in 3:48.34.
Also in the final list are; Jake Heyward of Wales,
Scotland's Josh Kerr, and Englishman Elliot Giles. Canada's William Paulson and
Mafori Ryan Mphahlele of South Africa took the non-automatic spots.
Cheruiyot is eying the gold medal in the club
games after he claimed silver in 2018 at the Gold Coast Games.
The two time African Champion has won the 1500m
Diamond League on four occasions; in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021.
The 1500m final is set for Saturday at 15:10hrs
Kenyan time.
