City Stars prowls the market for lethal striker, defender
Premier League
outfit Nairobi City Stars have their lenses across the league in search for a
‘proven striker’ and a defender to solve their problems in front of goals and
their leaky defense woes, head coach Nicholas Muyoti has said.
City Stars
struggled to score goals last season and at the same time conceded ‘easy goals’,
something Muyoti says they are moving with speed to fix.
“I would like to
have two or three more signings, and I already communicated that to the
management long ago. We know we are producing some good football and we know
which positions we require to go to the next level,” he explained. “We want to
beef up our defense, as much as sharpen our attacking department so that we go
into the next season ready to get goals and at the same time ensure we don’t
concede. We need a proven defender to help us at the back and a lethal striker
who can finish off the matches,” the soft spoken coach told Citizen Digital.
He went on: “We have a great team, we have always played
well but at the end of the day, results matter.”
Muyoti expects
his side to challenge for the title next season despite failing to nail down a
top-three finish in the just-concluded 2021/22 Kenya Premier League season.
The Hope
Centre-based side finished an impressive fifth on the log, their highest finish
since inception in 2003, but Muyoti feels they would have challenged for top
honors had it not been for their untimely slump towards the end of the season.
Simba wa Nairobi ended their trailblazing season with a 2-2 stalemate
against rookies Football Club Talanta, a feat that saw them fend off a
challenge for the fifth slot from AFC Leopards.
Nairobi City
Stars scored 45 goals in total last season and conceded just 34 goals in the
process.
