Nairobi City Stars are looking to add at least five new players ahead of the new National Super League (NSL) season that gets underway on December 1. The club conducted trials in Kawangware on Wednesday with head coach John Amboko saying he was impressed with the quality of players that showed at their Hope Centre base. Amboko who guided City Stars to finishing sixth during the 2018 NSL season said they are looking add at least two central defenders, an attacking midfielder and two strikers to their squad. “It was difficult for me to come up with the list of players I want because all of them were equally good. “I was looking at how a player reacts with the ball on his feet and when he’s without it as well as their body language when the ball is lost,” Amboko, a former captain of the side, told Citizen Digital. The club’s Chief Executive Herbert Kung’a said bolstering the squad and especially their attacking options will give a better chance for a return to the top flight following their relegation in 2016. “Basically what I lack in my team is the attacking part and defensive part of the team and those are the key areas that we are looking forward to invest for the coming season,” Kung’a said. Liberian forward Roosevelt Blatty, striker Alex Yoroga, John Oginga and left back Derrick Wafula and midfielder Swaleh Ali caught the eyes of the technical bench and will be assessed before they are offered deals at the club. “I will follow instructions and listen keenly to what the coach tells me,” Swaleh said after he was told he had made the cut. The 22-year-old has previously played for Liberty FC, the youth team of Tanzanian giants Azam SC, SSAD in Mombasa with Coastal Union being his latest club.
